We caught bits of the Tony Awards on TV tonight, and I feel so disappointed that Xanadu didn't bag a win. Ah well, that doesn't mean it's a bad musical, of course. It was loads of fun watching their performance of "Don't Walk Away"; Cheyenne Jackson may just be my favorite male singer these days.
Speaking of music and singing, I just saw this Inquirer article denouncing birit/belting and encouraging singers and fans to be more open to other types of singing. I couldn't've said it better. Speaking as a dreampop and twee fan, I think there's far more to singing anyway than just hitting high notes and roaring out lyrics.
