I was a huge fan of the original and can still do Corazon's voice today, hehe. I remember watching an episode at my friend Ivy's house back in high school when Marimar was still being shown at 2:30 PM. We were laughing for most of it, but I ended up getting hooked. Come on, the story's a classic: rich guy falls for poor girl, evil stepmother hates the poor girl, poor girl finds out she's actually a rich heiress and crushes the evil stepmother, then ends up with her true love. Plus, you gotta be amused at how she rocked her gowns to hide her pregnant belly and at how dumb Sergio Santibañez was to not recognize his wife, insisting that Marimar was "yung gusgusing babaeng taga-aplaya". Probably took too many soccer ball hits to the head.

So yes, I religiously watched the original, so imagine my surprise when I heard GMA 7 was coming out with a remake. The horror. But at least they didn't go through with doing Shaider--that would have made me even madder.

I therefore didn't plan on watching Marimar last night, but thanks to my Dad, I did. Who could resist? Jestoni Alarcon + Rita Avila = classic pairing! Although I'll probably give it a miss by the time Dingdong Dantes shows up.
