Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I'm a Potterite, so yesterday, I already reserved tickets for the first screening of the movie at The Block. There wasn't a wild crowd clamoring to get inside the theater, but nevertheless, I was acting like I had to fight my way through a throng of thousands just because it's fun.

Anyway, the movie. I never think the films do justice to the books, but they do their best, and it seems to me that the movies only get better as they make their way through the series. Already got some comments about the movie.

  • Bellatrix so didn't Avada Kedavra Sirius! Boo to that scene. In the book she clearly didn't do that.
  • I want Tonks' outfits!
  • They're really building up the Ron and Hermione love angle.
  • They're also building up Ginny's rep, what with her spellcasting power. Also funny: in the movie, Ginny's Patronus was a horse, and her being able to cast it caused Harry to cheer her on. TJ was saying Harry's particularly thrilled because it was a horse--a nod to Equus?
  • The opening scene was exceptional. It didn't feel Harry Potter-ish at all.
  • Luscious--yes, Luscious--Malfoy is glamorous and fierce.
  • Helena Bonham Carter totally owned her scenes.
  • When did Warwick Davis stop playing Filius Flitwick and become a music teacher?!
  • Whoa, the Harry-Cho kiss went on for quite a long time.
  • Ralph Fiennes still looks like he enjoys being Voldemort.
  • Cute kitties were prominently featured.
  • The young James Potter: not that hot.
  • The young Severus Snape: positively smokin'.
  • Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood was a really lovely choice. She does the spacey, loopy look well.
  • I had hoped Fred and George's flight would have been splendidly done, but ah well.
  • Give Rupert Grint more lines other than 'blimey' and 'bloody hell'!

Ah, who am I kidding? I may be displeased with some of the acting (one wonders why exchanges during conversations don't bounce back and forth more quickly), with the underused talents (Emma Thompson, for one), and the absence of the scenes I really wish had been included (Neville visiting his parents in St. Mungo's), but you know I'm totally going to watch it again, hehe.

You didn't like Imelda Staunton's Umbridge? She totally rocked that role. :) I was hoping to see more of Tonks!

I totally loved her! That was top-notch Umbridgeness. I just forgot to comment on that ^_^ Yeah, there should've been more of Tonks in the movie.

    bellatrix may not have avada'd sirius, but that at least looks cooler than having sirius die by accidentally falling into another dimension, right? XD;;

trelawney had a whole lot more air time than i thought she would be given, which is excellent! although more emma thompson wouldn't hurt, of course!
