Now I remember that not too long ago, I was spreading the good word about Chuck Norris and his badass ways. I may have to take that back, because a couple of nights ago, I remembered someone who's equally badass: Steven Seagal. Because my dad is a big fan and watches every Steven Seagal film he stumbles upon on TV, it's just possible that I may have already seen every Steven Seagal film made. Just the other night, there was this movie on Cinemax (and I'm too lazy to IMDB it), with Seagal in his trademark black outfits and ponytail and dealing out merry hell so liberally in Japan. It's scary how the dude could kill you as soon as look at you, and how intense he gets when storming a Lair of Crime and Evil--he can slice, dice, and chop his way through five opponents in less than 10 seconds, and he can break the neck of an unfortunate guard in the Lair of Crime and Evil (who's not completely updated on current events and was just surprised at the appearance of a big man in a ponytail) without a single twinge of guilt in his soul, as evidenced by the frozen expression of absolute absence of remorse and pity on his face.
It's also incredible how he's supposed to be an agent of the law, yet he can hack and slash mercilessly at criminals and pass off their deaths as having been committed by some rival bunch of criminals. What's even funnier is that after a night of killing, his very soul wasn't curled up in a ball and rocking back and forth in the corner of his being, guilt-ridden at his taking of many lives, and he even had the strength to go to some temple the next day. Granted, it was for his girlfriend's funeral, and I'm sure he wasn't feeling sad about his killing spree, but instead rejoiced at having exacted revenge on the man who killed the woman--by slicing him to death.
And that's just one movie.
Now I'm wondering exactly what kind of upbringing did his characters have to become such stone-cold killers.
