I was over at TJ's for lunch on Sunday and before getting anything to eat, we had to watch the Pacquiao-Morales rematch. We caught it a little later than the live telecast and heard about the outcome a few rounds before the decisive knockout, but we kept on watching anyway--anyone would have loved to see Morales stagger on the ring. Any Filipino, at least.
TJ and I were initially betting on Morales, while his sister and their dog (Yes, their dog. TJ's sister held out her hands and indicated that one represented Morales, the other represented Pacquiao.) were rooting for Pacquiao. Now don't anyone go bopping us over the head--I suppose we were just pre-softening the blow in the event that Pacquiao lost, in which case people would be sorely disappointed and hurt that he's been singing in his first single that his fight is for the Filipino people and yet failed to deliver. Why, Pacquiao would have faced, not an angry mob, but a disappointed nation.
So it was really quite excellent that the Pacman made good on his promise, and delivered not just a spiffy win, but some really cool punches. I know next to nothing about boxing, but I can say that though he looks like he needs a bit more learnin' about techniques, he's got some killer fists on him. Morales didn't look pretty after a while, yet Manny still looked bright-eyed and eager.
I'm still over the moon about the whole thing, and I wouldn't object at all if they declare his return to the Philippines a national holiday.
